Cheryl's Story
I got married 2 years after graduating to a guy from Ventura County. After 7 1/2 years of wedded ?, and 2 children we were divorced in 1974. For the next 27 years I spent raising 2 children, working various jobs, and moving from one relationship to another. I finally gave up trying to find Mr. Right, and decided to just run around with my buds and enjoy life.
One of my buddies got together a group of our co-workers to start doing things as a "gang". First of all, we took Scuba lessons (in a swimming pool), then we went rock climbing in Sequoia Nat'l Park, then we took skydiving lessons and made a few tandom jumps in Paso Robles. Well, I shouldn't say we, because of health problems I didn't get to participate, but I was the "Official" photographer. We had to change drop zones because of a mishap, so we started jumping in Mendota, Fresno county. We went to check it out one Saturday and met the instructors and the owner of the school. Really nice people. The next Saturday a bunch went to make some jumps. When we got there the instructors were helping a guy who had just had a mal-function and had to land under his reserve chute. As they were helping him to his truck, they stopped and intruoduced us to this guy, Don Masterson...Expand for more
. The instructor said "he's the one I was telling you about. He's been here every day making at least 3-4 jumps every day." Well, to make a long story short, we started out as friends, then he asked for my phone number, then he started calling every day, then we dated for a while, then he proposed, then we got married! I told all my friends that the only way I would get married again, was if he was at least 50, had his own house, had his own car, had the same job for at least 20 years, no kids at home and no ex-wife to contend with. Well, Don was a widower, kids were grown and gone, same job for 21 years, owned a Toyota, lived in the same house for 20 years. Now is that a cowinkydink or what? And we have lived happily ever after!
I always wanted to be a stewardess when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were wrong, I was too short..
There's two teachers I would love to see again. Mrs Margret Lane and Ms. Jo Barkley. Mrs Lane was just so cool. Nothing ever seemed to bother her. Not even when we acted like idiots in CAP class. And Ms Barkley taught me to play tennis. She taught me so well that I ended up teaching beginning tennis for a couple summers, to college age people.
